Overview
The Safety Manager is a full-time, field-focused leadership position responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, compliant, and productive work environment across Liesfeld Contractor’s heavy civil and site development projects throughout the Greater Richmond region. This role provides hands-on safety leadership in the field while supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company safety programs, policies, and procedures.
The Safety Manager works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, equipment operators, and field employees to proactively identify hazards, evaluate risk, reinforce safe work practices, conduct inspections and audits, provide training and coaching, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, client requirements, and company safety standards. The Safety Manager serves as a visible and trusted safety resource for project teams and is expected to lead from the field, build strong working relationships, hold employees and leadership accountable, and address unsafe conditions or behaviors promptly and professionally.
This role also serves as a key safety liaison with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, and project partners. The Safety Manager will participate in project planning and safety meetings, review project-specific requirements, support estimating and project management with safety-related requirements and potential operational impacts, and ensure safety expectations are understood before and throughout project execution.
The ideal candidate is an experienced construction safety professional who is equally comfortable developing safety programs, participating in client meetings, investigating an incident, conducting a jobsite inspection, or working directly alongside a Foreman and crew. Strong communication, sound judgment, leadership, organization, and the ability to influence employees at all levels are essential. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible construction or safety experience, a valid Virginia driver's license, and be legally authorized to work in the United States. OSHA 510 and/or OSHA 500 certification is preferred, along with additional construction safety certifications. Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are strongly preferred.
