Overview

As part of its long-standing commitment to community and historical preservation, Liesfeld Contractor donated site development services to two significant civic projects in Richmond: the Arthur Ashe Monument and the Richmond Slave Burial Grounds.

At the Arthur Ashe Monument, Liesfeld provided site work for the statue honoring the legendary Richmond-born tennis champion and civil rights advocate. The monument stands as a cultural landmark on Monument Avenue and represents a significant turning point in the city’s recognition of diverse legacies.

At the Richmond Slave Burial Grounds, Liesfeld donated services to support site access, demolition of a parking lot, grading, and preservation efforts at one of the most historically significant African American burial sites in the region. Located near the former Lumpkin’s Jail site in Shockoe Bottom, the burial grounds are an essential part of Richmond’s efforts to acknowledge and memorialize its full history.

Both projects reflect Liesfeld’s deep roots in the Richmond community and its belief in using its resources and expertise to support projects of enduring cultural significance.
