Overview

Liesfeld Contractor was selected to support a key piece of infrastructure connecting two of Virginia’s most iconic civic buildings. As part of the multi-phase Capitol Square redevelopment, Liesfeld performed the excavation and backfill for the underground pedestrian tunnel linking the award-winning new General Assembly Building (GAB) to the historic Virginia State Capitol.

Working in one of the most sensitive and security-restricted zones in downtown Richmond, Liesfeld provided precision excavation, structural backfill, utility support, and logistics coordination for the general contractor. The project required careful planning to accommodate active government operations, ensure public accessibility, and preserve historic features.

By bringing deep experience in urban infrastructure and a reputation for reliability in high-stakes environments, Liesfeld helped deliver this high-profile project that enhances long-term functionality and access within the Commonwealth’s seat of government.
