About this project

The Asymmetric Warefare Group Training Complex (AWG) is a 700 + acre training complex for the United States Army located at Fort AP Hill, Virginia. The project was massive in scale and was broken into three main sections 1.) 800/1200 Meter Ranges, 2.) Urban Training 3.) Administration Area.

Roadways – Over fifteen miles of roadways (stone, concrete, and/or asphalt) were constructed for the project. The project also had several bridges, large parking/staging areas and roundabouts.

Building Pads – Over fifty building pads were constructed between the three areas of the project. Key buildings consisted of mock power plant, indoor range, administration buildings and range control buildings.

Subway Tunnel – AWG hosts the first modern subway tunnel in central Virginia for training exercises. Liesfeld provided key support capabilities like excavation and backfill for the tunnel.  The project also had its own rail yard.

Range/Target Construction – Liesfeld placed two large target walls at the 800 Meter Range. At the 1200 Meter Range, Liesfeld placed 150  infantry targets and 50 armor targets. All targets at the 1200 Meter Range were a mix of stationary and moving.
