About this project

West Broad Marketplace is a large commercial development located on a 62-acre site in the Short Pump Shopping Area in Henrico, Virginia. Liesfeld provided a full site preparation package including demolition, clearing, erosion control, grading, soil stabilization, large-scale retaining walls, rock excavation, storm sewer, water, sanitary, VDOT right-of-way improvements, site concrete, and asphalt pavement.

West Broad Marketplace was broken into five separate projects including Infrastructure, Cabelas, Wegmans, East Retail and West Retail.

The project included installation of five large underground sand filters.

West Broad Marketplace included large-scale retaining walls that bordered the road and the eastern portion of the property. The segmented block retaining and masonry walls at their highest point are 30 + feet tall. The wall included extensive tiebacks and backfills.

The project highlighted Liesfeld’s Rock Excavation and Crushing capabilities. Included blasting, excavating, crushing and placement in fill of over 90,000 Cubic Yards of crushed rock material.

In the public easement section along Broad Street, Liesfeld carefully with the use of diamond blade saws mounted on excavators was able to remove rock around an exiting utility for installation of a new utility. Read more about Liesfeld’s Rock Excavation and Blasting Capabilities.
