About this project
In December 2013, Liesfeld completed the Craney Island West Shoreline Protection project located in Portsmouth, Virginia. The project is located on 2,500 acres on the James River next to the Port of Virginia and consisted on moving 150,000 cubic yards of material from the eastern side of the island to the western side of the island. Once the material was unloaded on the western side of the island the material was placed along the shoreline and reinforced with rip rap stone creating a protection barrier for the island.
The project highlighted the Liesfeld approach, consisting of new techniques and equipment to move the material faster and in larger quantities. Also brought to the table were our site engineering capabilities, which included GPS Controlled Machines with field verification of material moved.
